ASCD Middle East International Conference
Colleagues from around the globe will come together in one of the world's most beautiful cities to explore what it means to ensure every student is healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged. ASCD's Middle East International Conference, The Whole Child: Embracing a Global Vision, will be held Nov. 8 to 9 in Istanbul, Turkey. The program will include a variety of sessions designed to facilitate the sharing of best practices in curriculum and instruction and will cover three of ASCD's most requested areas of emphasis: Understanding by Design, Differentiated Instruction, and What Works in Schools. Literacy Academy to Focus on Understanding the Reading and Writing Connection

To help schools or districts enhance students' ability to use text to master subject area content and to express their thinking by writing about their learning, ASCD is offering The Literacy Academy. The academy will provide both large-group and "job-alike" opportunities for educators to learn how to use reading and writing to increase student learning of content, while honing students' ability to get meaning from text and to communicate that learning through writing. The academy will be held July 21 to 24, 2008, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
