High-quality science instruction embodies a combination of explicit instruction of NGSS scientific practices and core scientific information. Come experience multiple practical methods of centering relevant instruction on scientific practices at all grade levels. You will explore how to use NGSS website to plan a vertically- and horizontally-aligned curriculum. After experiencing science instruction centered on NGSS scientific practices, we will discuss how to evaluate and develop science instruction that explicitly teaches NGSS scientific practices from kindergarten through high school.

SUCCESS CRITERIA:

Participants will be able to evaluate science instruction with confidence and effectiveness. Participants will identify the three NGSS strands and how they relate to their teaching context. Participants will be able to visualize and articulate NGSS scientific practices involved in high-quality science lessons to optimize student growth. Participants will have an evolved definition of high-quality science instruction and a deeper sense of effective methods used for students to grow their scientific expertise.
